I’m never happier than when I’m helping people grow and be more confident in their roles. I love it, I’m good at it, and I’m great with people.
Nothing excites me more than hearing about their success and happiness after my sessions.
I’ve been developing people since 1997
I started out in sales, then managed a sales team before moving on to HR and operations. That was my stepping stone to becoming a careers & development professional in 2012 after a redundancy.
As is often the case, it was an opportunity to focus on what I enjoy most - helping people grow.
My next step was to the University of London as part of the careers team, supporting professionals.
It’s some of the most rewarding work I’ve ever done, which included helping doctors in the NHS from the start of their careers, to consultant level. They won’t hesitate to challenge me if they see things differently - something I’ve come to love!
Brightbloom was born
In 2016 the university stopped working on professional contracts, but this work was so important to me I decided to continue as a freelancer, and I’ve never looked back.
I’m a people person
‘Friendly’ isn’t actually my middle name but lots of people say it should be. I approach workshops and 1-1s with realistic optimism and a positive attitude. Every session is different, so it’s my job to be an ally who genuinely cares about everyone in the room.
There’s no one-size-fits-all approach
I work hard to understand different themes and ideas, so I can always find an approach that works for the individual challenges of everyone in the session. I don’t promote a singular approach. It’s my job to find the ideas and recommendations that work best for them.
Over 2 decades of recruiting and interviewing experience
I want to help navigate the challenges of getting jobs, by sharing the perspective of the people recruiting. A big part of this is dispelling myths about the process, and what employers expect.
Every organisation needs great leadership
It breaks my heart how much unhappiness is generated by poor leadership. Like anyone, I’ve made mistakes on my own leadership journey, which is why I’m so keen to share that experience, as well as the learning I’ve done to grow my expertise.
